Born in 1977, Andro Martinović is a research associate at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) and an Associate Professor in the Film and Media Studies program at the University of Donja Gorica. He previously served as the Director and Programming Head of the Montenegrin Cinematheque.
Martinović edited the book Montenegrin Cinematographers 1908–1914, authored the bio-bibliography of filmmaker Živko Nikolić, and translated the screenplay for the film There Is No Resurrection Without Death.
An accomplished filmmaker, his short films have been selected for official programs at over twenty prestigious international festivals. His film Untouched by the Sun (Netaknuti suncem) was awarded the Golden Plaque of Belgrade, while Masks (Maske) was included in the European Short Film Tour and screened in more than thirty countries. He co-directed the documentary Montenegro and the Great War, which received the Special Jury Award at the Warsaw Film Festival’s historical film section.
His feature-length debut Between Day and Night (Između dana i noći) premiered in the official competition of the 42nd Montreal World Film Festival (2018) and screened at thirty international festivals. In 2023, he received the Milovan Đilas Award for best essay.
Martinović is currently developing Stanić, a Century (Stanić, stoljeće), a film about artist Voj Stanić, and preparing the short fiction film A Gun at Noon (U podne puška).
