Arto Halonen is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning Finnish director, producer, and screenwriter of feature and documentary films, known for his strong social engagement. His most notable works include the feature films Princess (2010) and Guardian Angel (2018), as well as documentaries Karmapa – Two Paths to Divinity (1998), Shadow of the Holy Book (2007), When Heroes Lie (2012), and Rage (2015). He has received numerous prestigious awards, including Finland’s highest cultural honor, the Finlandia Award (2005). In 2008, he was named one of the most important European documentarians at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Since 2009, he has been a member of the European Film Academy. Halonen is also the founder of DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival, serving as its first director from 2001 to 2004.
