HABITAT UNDER THREAT | IQUIQUE

Habitat Under Threat is a documentary series that showcases outdoor sports locations facing conservation challenges, aiming to raise awareness about preserving these landscapes for future generations, emphasizing the importance of a sense of belonging, and inspiring viewers to recognize their role in caring for the planet. The film about Iquique highlights the vibrant desert life, ideal for sandboarding, surfing, and diving, and contrasts it with the significant environmental impact of the Iquique Free Trade Zone (ZOFRI). The large influx of second-hand clothing, mostly discarded in the Atacama Desert, has created the world’s largest illegal clothing landfill. The film examines the problem’s origins and impact through diverse perspectives, from local residents to specialists and environmentalists, providing a comprehensive view of the issue. It also offers a reflection on the urgency of changing our consumption habits for a more sustainable future.
