The last indigenous people of Mentawai, a small archipelago southwest of Sumatra, are struggling with creative resistance to preserve their ancient culture and rainforests.
Their culture is on the brink of extinction, and with the latest geopolitical developments, the destruction of their habitat has reached a point of no return. Shattering the hopes of thirty years of democratization in Indonesia, Jakarta, under the return of authoritarian rule, imposes deforestation in Mentawai.
In collaboration with investigative journalist Febrianti and indigenous foundations, the film portrays the indigenous culture, history, and resistance to the latest geopolitical events of the growing environmental degradation in Indonesia.
The film depicts the story of decades of oppression of indigenous culture – but also the resilience of the main characters and the last tribes living in the jungle.
