Lake Ohrid, the oldest lake in Europe, is a unique treasure trove of nature. No other body of water on our continent is home to so many species in such a small area. Among them are iconic species such as the Ohrid trout, a living fossil. It arouses the interest of scientists, fishermen and artists alike. Archaeologists researching Lake Ohrid as an important site in European settlement history are also keeping an eye on it. Cornelia Volk
Cornelia Volk was born on 6 June 1970 in Heilbronn am Neckar. After completing her A-levels, she studied rhetorics, literature and political science at the University of Tübingen and worked as a director and actress in several theatre companies. Since 1997, she has worked as a freelance writer and director of nature films and documentaries, primarily for MDR and Arte. Her interests lie in topics such as species conservation and cross-border peace parks, as well as the coexistence of humans and animals around the world. She particularly enjoys travelling in the Balkans – and snorkeling with sea turtles off the coast of Naxos.
